Angel McDonald
Executive Director
Angel has been with Mother’s Refuge since 2002. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. As Executive Director, Angel writes and submits grants and oversees the implementation of all programs. Her expertise in grant writing, speaking and her compassion for youth are a great asset for the organization.
Kelsi Green
Assistant Executive Director
Kelsi holds a bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Central Missouri and a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Kelsi comes to us from FosterAdopt Connect, where she was the Behavioral Programs Supervisor. She has experience in program development, evaluation, management, coordination, and supervision. Kelsi is passionate about helping young mothers find hope in their future and create healthy attachment with their infants. She married her husband Dustin in August 2015, and they had their adorable baby boy, Arley Gib, in June 2016. In her free time, Kelsi enjoys spending time with family and friends, baking, crafting, reading, and being outdoors!
Kimberlee Peppers
Program Manager
Kimberlee earned her degree from Southwest Baptist University. She first started working at Mother’s Refuge after graduation. She served for several years as case manager. She left to serve with two other child caring organizations, with her husband, as live-in house parents and managers. She returned to our staff in August 2014 as Program Manager.
Julie Johnson, BS
Case Manager
Julie received her Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Missouri State University in Joplin, Missouri. She joined our staff in 2009. She provides individualized strengths-bases case management for our residents.Julie assists each young woman with planning her educational and parenting goals. Her objective is to challenge each resident to make thoughtful and wise decisions for themselves and their babies. Julie is a dedicated case manager, passionate about helping pregnant, young women improve their lives and achieve success.
Hope Ortego
Events and Volunteer Coordinator
Hope earned her Bachelors Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. She comes to us from Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she served as the Director of the Volunteer Department at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. She has several years of experience with social media marketing, volunteer recruitment, and event planning. When she's not coordinating volunteers, she loves watching sports and reading.
Rhonda Smith
Education Coordinator
Rhonda comes to us from Australia, she has dual citizenship as she is a citizen of USA born over seas. Rhonda has an Associate Diploma in business accounting and a Diploma in community services. Prior to moving to the USA she worked in a high security Domestic Violence refuge as a case worker for the children. She joined our staff in June 2015 as a house parent, and since she is an artist, she ran art therapy classes, then she ran the nutritional meals program. After which, she applied to be the Education Coordinator, and gained that position. Rhonda has attended Bible college, had Teen challenge training, participated in prison outreaches, planned and ran many church groups. Rhonda enjoys her artwork, reading and traveling.
Melissa Martin
Lead House Parent
After many years of raising and supporting her two children in all of their endeavors, Melissa joined the work force full time in the hospitality field. She quickly moved up to a managerial position for a highly ranked hotel chain. Three years later she decided to walk a different path in her life and maybe, just maybe, impact someone's else's life. A non profit opportunity presented itself and Melissa accepted the position of a House Parent at Mothers Refuge. In the fall of 2017, Melissa stepped into a newly created position of Lead House Parent. In her spare time she enjoys reading, traveling, raising two Great Danes (Carlos & Cooper), and cheering on her Mizzou Tigers.
